Sarah (Dorrington) Green was born in the Colony of New South Wales (1788-1900)
Sarah Dorrington was born on 26 March 1813[1] at Portland Head, New South Wales, Australia as the first child of John Dorrington and Jane Gittens. She was baptised on 26 September 1813, at Portland Head by Clergyman Rev. Robert Cartwright and registered at St Matthew's Church of England, Windsor.[2] She died on 18 July 1885[3] at Woodford Island, near Maclean, on the far north coast of New South Wales, Australia.
When she was 21, she married John Green on 26 April 1834,[4] in Pitt Town, New South Wales, Australia. The register of St James church, Pitt Town recorded that they were both of the Parish of Sackville Reach, and they were married by banns by M D Meares with consent of His Excellency the Governor. They both marked the register with a cross. Witnesses were Gabriel Bradley of Sackville Reach and F D Wood of Pitt Town.[5] Because John was a convict, they had to get permission from the Governor. Sarah's status was "free" on the marriage record and it was stated she was born in the colony.[6]
