Biography

Ann Dorryfall, was the sister of BARNABY DORRYFALL [1] [2] [3] It is thought that the family may have originated near Boston, Lincolnshire. [4]

Anne 'Dorifall', aged 24, enrolled as a passenger Elizabeth of Ipswich on April 30, 1634. [5] [2]

Her brother Barnabas of Braintree, Massachusetts left bequests to his kinsmen, Samuel, Obadiah and Thomas Spencer in his will written on January 28, 1680/1. The bulk of his estate went to Samuel Spencer, executor, in 'consideration for taking care of him', with small legacies to his brothers Obadiah and Thomas.[4] In Thomas Spencer's will of September 9, 1686, he names his three sons Obadiah, Thomas and Samuel and notes that he bequests to son Samuel, his wearing apparel, son Samuel having already 'received a good portion from his Uncle'. [1] [6]

Anne was admitted to Boston church on November 2, 1634, as "Ann Derifall, our brother Wm. Coddington's maid servant. [2]" [ BChR 19].

Soon after her church admission, she married Thomas Spencer. [2] Her husband Thomas was baptized at Stotfole, Bedfordshire, England on March 29, 1607, son of Gerard and Alice (Whitebread) Spencer. Thomas was first of Cambridge, Massachusetts but removed to Hartford, Connecticut in 1636. [3]

She died by September,1645, when Thomas remarried at Hartford. [3]

Children

  1. Obadiah born c 1635-9; married Mary Disborough, daughter of Nicholas about 1666 [3]; died at Hartford in May 1712. [7] [6]
  2. Thomas born c 1637-41; married Esther Andrews, daughter of William about 1666 [3]; died July 23, 1698 at Suffield, Connecticut. [7] [6]
  3. Samuel born c 1639-43; married Sarah (unk) by about 1684 [3]; died at Windham, Connecticut on October 24, 1727 [7] vs January 8, 1726/7. [6]

DOB in data and bio do not match. Anderson in the featured profile of Barnaby Dorryfall in comments on p. 572 of GMB says, it "seems very likely, and would suggest an origin for both Barnaby and Ann Dorryfall in the neighborhood of Boston, Lincolnshire" England.[https://www.americanancestors.org/databases/great-migration-begins-immigrants-to-ne-1620-1633-vols-i-iii/image?volumeId=12107&pageName=572&rId=23894931

On this PPP profile, could a PGM LEADER please add Unknown Dorryfall as the father, and then connect the siblings Barnaby Dorryfall-2 with this profile Ann Dorryfall-1. I thank you.

Two major older citations list her with surname Derifield:

New England Marriages Prior to 1700 by Clarence Alman Torrey Thomas Spencer (1607-1687) & 1) Ann Derifield (? - 1644) c. 1635 in Hartford, CT & 2) Sarah Breeding 11 Sep 1645 in Hartford

National Society Daughters of Colonial Wars Lineage Book V 1966-1982 p. 770: Anne Derifield married Thomas Spencer p. 771: Anne Derifield and Thomas Spencer's son Samuel Spencer was listed as the lone heir of Barnabus Derifield

Thanks, Edward. Her name appears in original records (from the period of her lifetime) with a variety of spellings. Absent identification of birth records or other family records contemporaneous to her time of birth, the PGM project uses Anderson's spelling from his Great Migration series. Alternative spellings are listed in Other Last Names.

Dorifall-1 and Dorryfall-1 appear to represent the same person because: Dorifall-1 has Spencer-326 as the father of her child Obidah, Spencer-2438, but not a spouse. Dorryfall-1 has Spencer-326 as a spouse, but different children. Dorifall-1 has no documentation. It looks like an incomplete duplicate. Please review and merge.
Sourced this profile. Spelling of LNAB uncertain, Anderson uses Dorryfall.

Derifall-1 and Dorryfall-1 appear to represent the same person because: Duplicate profiles. I adopted Derifall-1 hoping I could delete, since Dorryfall-1 is PPP, but I remembered I can't. So... merge please! Thanks!
Update: actually this profile may NOT be the target. Hold, please. (Muzak plays here.)
