New Zealand Pioneer and Settler, of Vivian Street, New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand; originally of King Street, Westminster, London; she was one of four siblings who came out to New Zealand in the 1840s.
She was the eldest daughter of Mary and John Dorset, Tallow Chandler, of King Street, Westminster, London. She was born on 5 October 1800 at Westminster. She was baptised Sarah Dorset on 26 October 1800 at St Margaret, Westminster. Upon her marriage in 1834 she was of the Parish of St George's Church, Hanover Square, London.
On 2 July 1834 at St George's Church, Hanover Square, she married James Webster, with issue one daughter and two sons.
With her husband and two children, Sarah Frances Webster (in an advanced state of pregnancy) left Plymouth, Devonshire, on 25 March 1841 onboard the barque Amelia Thompson. Their youngest child, William Dawson Webster, was born three weeks later on 15 April, and was named in honour of the ship's Captain, William Dawson. The Amelia Thompson arrived at New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand, on 3 September 1841.
The ship's Passenger List stated: James Webster (Yeoman), Mrs Webster, Frederick L Webster, William Dawson Webster ("Born 16th March 1841, named after the Captain"), and one female infant (Frances Ann, later Mrs Lt-Colonel Charles Stapp). The family party also consisted of Miss Charlotte Elizabeth Baker (Mrs Webster's niece.[1]
Her husband died on 3 September 1868 at New Plymouth, aged 60. He was buried in the Webster Family Burial Ground in Te Henui Cemetery, New Plymouth, on 5 September 1868.
She died ten days after him on 13 September 1868, aged 67. She was buried with him on 16 September 1868 in Te Henui Cemetery. North East Corner.
Most sites give her birth year as 1805, however her original Baptism Record sourced at Ancestry proves birth date 5 October 1800 and baptism 26 October 1800.
Her age at death on her Gravestone and Death Registration states 63, however she was aged 67. She was seven years older than her husband and may have understated her age after marriage.
