Note: {geni:about_me} Sampson is said to have built a mill on Crooked Creek (back of the present Leland Cottrell homeplace) where the hollow runs into the creek from the south. A dam had been constructed upstream where the stream hits the rock bluff and a race was built down to the mill. Their millstones were made on Mill Rock Branch to the north of Dillard. Two of the unfinished stones may still be around Dillard, Missouri. It is said that they had a dug-out shelter for persons to stay in overnight if they came long distances to the mill and couldn't make the trip in a day's time.

Sampson was born in 1787. He was the son of James Dodson and Rhoda Unknown. He passed away in 1872.
