Murdered at Stirling Castle by his second cousin, James II; the Douglas clan rebelled, with the (retrospectively named) Black Douglas and the Red Douglas groups splitting factions. The Red Douglas was led by George Douglas who supported the king, from 1455, when the Black Douglas clan was attainted. According to Wikipedia, William was born in 1425. Current DOB is impossible with mother not born until 1410.
