Biography

Sally was the daughter of Job Dow and Hannah Pattee of Goffstown and Atkinson, New Hampshire. She was married about 1799 to Jonathan Taggart, the son of John Taggart and Elizabeth Jameson. The couple had two children born in Goffstown, shortly after which Jonathan died. Sally appears to have stayed a widow the remainder of her life. She was enumerated on the 1810 census in Goffstown with her two children, is not found in 1820, but in 1830 was with little doubt the 40-49 year old female in the household of her son, Jonathan Taggard, living in Milton, Chittenden Co., VT. Though she is not indicated in the census, she was likely living with Jonathan in 1840, then in 1850 she appears with Jonathan's widow and children in Richmond, Chittenden, VT. In 1860 she was living with her grandchildren, Lucinda Taggard, 32, and Emeline Wells, 30, in Northfield, Washington, VT.

Sally has two different death records on file in Vermont, one of them giving year of death and cemetery name, the other giving the entire date of death.

• Jonathan, b. 5 May 1800, d. Richmond, VT 15 Aug 1850, buried in the Village Cemetery in Richmond.

• Ellen "Nellie" Dow, b. 24 Sep 1801, d. Hinnsburg, VT 2 April 1887, m. Cassius Cooley.
