Joseph Dow was born on 20 March 1638/9 in Watertown, Massachusetts Bay Colony.[1]
"He was an expert land surveyor, and next to his brother, Henry, the important men of Hampton. When 22 he had been self-supporting for some years." [2]
On 16 December 1662, Joseph (age about 23) married Mary Sanborn (age 17) in Hampton, Norfolk, Massachusetts Bay Colony. [3]
Joseph was the only member in his family to become a Quaker.
"His military title, long scorned by himself, covers the uncertainty of his position in the caste system of the time."[4]
Joseph died on 4 April 1703 in Hampton, New Hampshire. His will was probated on 19 April 1703.[4] His will mentions all his children.

All the children (except Samuel) were born in Hampton, New Hampshire. The birth dates on the actual record are from the Julian calendar where 1mo. is March, 2 mo. is April, etc. The dates below have been adjusted to align with the Gregorian calendar.
