Biography

Lucy L. T. Dowdy was born to parents William Dowdy and Rebecca Hall on 2 Feb 1801 in South Carolina. She married William C. Dowdy about 1832, He was born 1815 and died 1837. They had three children together, all born in Hickman, Kentucky, where her husband William died at the age of 22:

1. Watson T. Dowdy, 31 Jul 1833 to 4 Feb 1928
2. Fannie Rebecca Dowdy, Oct 1835 - Mar 1861
3. George William Dowdy, 1837-1928.

Fannie Rebecca died single and is buried in the Dowdy Family Cemetery in Houston County, Tennessee.

Lucy married Arthur N. Powers in 1845, and her children were raised in that household where there were already about half a dozen kids. Their names were reported as "Powers" on the 1850 census.

Lucy died on 22 Feb 1888 in Stewart, Tennessee and is buried in the Dowdy Cemetery in Stewart County, Tennessee.^[1]
