Biography

Urban H. Dowling was born at Whiting, Maine, 11 Oct 1828, the son of Silas Turner Dowling and Olive Libby; ^{[1] [2] [3] [4]} died at Saint James, New Brunswick, 2 Jul 1880, ^[3] and is buried there in the Pomeroy Ridge Cemetery. ^[5]

Urban married (1) perhaps at Dennysville, Maine, before 23 Dec 1851 (birth of twins Ezra and Albert), Eliza (______). She apparently died before 23 Jun 1860, when he married (2) at St. Anne's Church, Calais, Maine, Jane Morrison Pomeroy. ^[6]

Farmer at Marion, Maine, ^[4] and lumberman at Saint James, New Brunswick. ^[7]

He was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church, and his wife and son, Lorenzo, were members of the newly-formed (1866) Presbyterian Synod of the Lower Provinces. ^[7] In 1925, both groups would join the Congregational Union of Ontario and Quebec to form the United Church of Canada.
