The death took place at his residence at dinner time to-day of Mr. George Jabez Downey, at the early age of 44. The deceased had been a sufferer for some considerable time, and yesterday morning he took a very bad turn, and although everything possible was done to relieve him he gradually grew weaker and died as stated from haemorhage of the lungs. He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Farley and Mrs. J. Ronalds, and three young sons to mourn their loss. His brothers are Messrs William, Arthur, Robert, and his sisters Mrs. T. H. Smith, Mrs. C. Laws, Mrs Grainger, Mrs Quinn, Mrs Kennard (Sydney), and Mrs Cameron (Wellington). The remains will be encased in a polished cedar coffin and will be laid to rest in the Church of England portion of the local cemetery tomorrow morning at 11.30. Mr. C. J.
Shakespeare will have charge of the funeral arrangements.
