Obituary reads: Alexander J Downing - The Butler Eagle; Butler, Butler Co, PA - May 9, 1963 Alexander J. Downing 84, of 620 Third St., died at 2:50 P.M. yesterday at the Dusty Rose Nursing Home. Born in Clarion county, he was the son of Robert H and Sarah Ann Ace Downing. A railroad conductor for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, he had been employed there for 55 years until his retirement 14 years ago. Mr. Downing was married December 20, 1905 in Uniontown, and he and his wife lived in Connellsville for a while before moving to Butler in 1909. They resided there for 54 years. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Leona Downing, a daughter Mrs Leona Thompson of Cleveland, Ohio, six sons, Edward A and Clarence W both of Butler, Paul K of New Port, Ky. Howard J of Arlington Va, a sister Mrs Emma Anderson of Pittsburgh, a brother Robert H of Greenville, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Three sons preceded him in death. He was a member of the First Methodist Church and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. [1]
Alexander is buried at North Side Cemetery in Butler, Butler County, Pennsylvania, USA. [2]
