Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
James Dozier was a Virginia colonist.

James Ingo Dozier came from Virginia to Kentucky about 1779. He was nearly 80 when he migrated and he died in 1790/91. His five sons, all well into their maturity, came with him and brought their families, and they moved around trying to exploit economic opportunities on the frontier.

James Ingo Dozier named in his will (1790, Madison Co., Kentucky.) his son Leonard as one of his executors. Son Zachariah was the other. I have family Bible records listing the names and birthdates of Leonard's children, including a Zachariah b. 4/21/1803 m. Sarah Ann Wright in Madison Co., Kentucky., 9/9/1839 as shown in Madison Co. marriage records. (Zachariah's brother Peter married Elizabeth Wright.) Records from Illinois descendants show the same birth date for Zachariah as does the family Bible records, of which I have copies. They also list Sarah Ann Wright as his wife. The Illinois files also show Traviers or Travis as a child along with Octavious, Laine, Nancy, Sue and Margaret.

Leonard's brother Zachariah moved to Clark and Montgomery Counties in Kentucky, and he had a son Zach, records show Zach Jr. as marrying Cintha Johnson and/or Nancy Locknain (sp?) and moving to Bedford Co., Tennessee, where he died.

James I. Dozier was brother of Leonard Dozier, his daughter, Margaret Dozier, married her first cousin, Richard Dozier, son of Leonard and Rebecca Evans Dozier

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:

Currently on Family Search it lists the wife of James Ingo Dozier as a Martha Ann Lancaster (1728-1792) who was the daughter of Zachariah Lancaster and Frances Jane Scott who were married 1726 in Patterdale, Westmoreland, England.

In the previous record I found it lists her name as Martha, but not sure if that is the correct LNAB and parents that Family Search has listed. More research needed.
