Biography

was born near Springville, Erie County, New York, in 1840, and came to Milwaukee with his brother, John R., in 1851. Served an apprenticeship in the drug store of L.F. Lake, on the South Side, and joined his brothers on the formation of the house of Drake Brothers, in 1859. In 1861, he enlisted as a private in Company A, Twenty-fourth Regiment Wisconsin Volunteers, and was soon afterward promoted to Lieutenancy. He served with his regiment until disabled by sickness when he returned to the drug trade.

Henry Thompson Drake, president of Drake Bros. company, died suddenly at his home, 2101 Grand avenue at 11 o'clock Friday evening, July 25. Mr. Drake has been a resident of Milwaukee since 1851. He was born in Concord, Erie Couonty, N.Y. on December 17, 1838. His father was Allen Drake, who was born at the same place and his mother's name was Mary Wheeler, who was born in New Salem, Mass. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. M.A. Lockwood of Long Beach, Cal.; two sons, Clarke S. Drake and Harry F. Drake; his brother, Harvey W. Drake all of this city, and his sister, Mrs. G.M. Woodruff of Parsons, Kas. The funeral will be held from the residence of his son, Dr. Clarke S. Drake (?) Twenty street. The time of the funeral had not been decided on Saturday. Mr. Drake enlisted in the union army on July 28, 1862, was appointed first sergeant on Aug. 15 of the same year. was commissioned second Lieutenant. Co. A. Twenty-fourth Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry on Jan. 12, 1863. he mustered out of service on account of disability on Aug 31, 1963. He took part in the battles of Chaplin Hills. Stone River and Murfreesboro Tenn. He was elected member of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States on Feb. 4, 1885 amd was also a member of the E.B. Wolcott Post No. 1, Grand Army of the Republic.
