Biography

Isabell was born probably about 1579 to William Drake and Joan Merrylls. This is proven by the will of her mother Joan Merrylls Drake in 1616/7, in which she cites her "daughter Esbel Drake wife of John Smith."[1]

Isabel Drake and John Bland AKA Smith were married probably in Colchester, Essex, England, to John Bland.[2] John Bland was from Colchester, England. William Drake and Joan Merrels are also from the Colchester area (Elmstead).

They had the following children:

  • Annabelle c1615 [3][1]
  • Isabel 1617,[4] married names Austin, Leavett

NOTE: the following children have been given to this couple, but are refuted by Robert Charles Anderson:[4]

  • Thomas 1605
  • Daniel
  • John
  • Edmund 1611
  • Joan 1617

Isabel migrated to Watertown, Massachusetts Bay Colony, in 1630 with her husband, John Bland AKA Smith.

Isabel died 12 oct 1639, aged 60, in Watertown, Massachusetts Bay.[5][1]
