In honor of Family History month, WikiTree is holding a Source -A-Thon on 1-3 October 2016 to provide sources for the many unsourced profiles on WikiTree. We have already signed up over 325 members.

The benefits? You can win one of over $3,000 in door prizes, but the best part is that we all work together here and try to provide sources on those unsourced profiles.

Hope you join us. Visit Source-a-Thon to get your Source-a-Thon number & badge. You are invited also to join Team Missouri, which includes Missouri, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Iowa, Arkansas, Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska.

Every little bit helps. Thanks so much.

Shirley

How's everything going?

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

Hi Carla , and welcome to WikiTree! You tagged your interest in England/ the United Kingdom. I wanted to let you know we have a great project that focuses on the UK here called United Kingdom Project It would be a great place for you to get involved once you have settled into WikiTree.

Thank you for joining WikiTree and good luck with your research.

Hi Carla,

I see that you just volunteered. That's great! Here at WikiTree we like to have our members involved with others; collaboration is key! Is there a particular time period, location, or topic you're interested in? Maybe you have some historically-significant ancestors?

I see you have several surnames for tags. Have you checked out the One Name Studies project? The current leaders for that are Doug Lockwood and Alison Andrus. They would be happy to get you started. Let me know if you need any help!

Hello Carla,

You are now a twig on a branch of our great big ole shared tree, thank you for volunteering!

We have a Question of the Week posted in our Genealogist-To-Genealogist (G2G) forum if you'd like to jump in and answer it, just click When did you realize the importance of sources in genealogy?

Have fun and ask for help if you need it! WikiTree members are always eager to offer guidance to a fellow family historian/genealogist.

If you need additional help, our Mentors Project is a friendly bunch of volunteers who will be glad to assist you with WikiTree-specific problems.

See you in the branches --

Hi Carla,

Feel very welcome to WikiTree! I hope you will like it here as much as I do!

The initial email from us has helpful links that will get you started on WikiTree, which is not like any genealogy site you’ve ever used. WikiTree is different because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we all work together as a BIG collaborative team! Feel free to explore WikiTree, and we hope you will help us to grow our BIG tree!

When you confirm your email address, you’ll have an opportunity to volunteer and tell us about your genealogical interests at the tags (green boxes). Once you volunteer, one of our Greeters will be happy to confirm your membership, and you’ll be on your way!

Welcome to the family! We’re really glad you’re here.
