Catharine's father, Jesse Drake, born in England, came to the "Boones Lick" country of Missouri in territory days, 1818. Her mother was Jemima-Wilhelmina Julianna Rose from Bingen, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany.[2]
She was the wife of Tunis Newkirk whom she married, at the age of 18, on April 24, 1794 in Jefferson County, Kentucky. The service was performed by John Whitaker.
Her father Jesse Drake [1] sold Tunis Newkirk a slave in Bullitt County, Kentucky 1818, about the time the Drakes were planning on leaving Kentucky for Missouri. "...Know all men by these presents that I, Jesse Drake of the County of Bullitt and State of Kentucky, hath sold and do by these presents bargain and sell unto Tunis Newkirk of the County and State aforesaid one negro woman by the name of Sarah at the age of thirty one years. Also one negro girl child by the name of Harriott of the age of two years the 18th day of July next, both of them for the Consideration of five hundred and sixty dollars to the said Drake in hand paid. In Witness whereof I set my hand and Seal this 24 January 1818. Signed: Jesse Drake in the presence of David R. Drake and Catharine Drake. Recorded 28 Jul 1818. [3]
