Biography

Sir Robert III, Comte de Dreux & Braine, Seigneur de Bú, Brie-Comte-Robert, Nesle, St.-Valéry, Gamaches, Ault-sur-la-Mer, Bouint, Dommart, Bernardville, & St.-Aubin b. circa 1190, d. 3 March 1234

He was son of Robert II, Comte de Dreux & Braine, Seigneur de Brie-Comte-Robert, Chilly, Fère-en-Tardenois, Longjumeau, Longueville, Nesle, Pont-Arcy, Quincy, Torcy, & Ville (b. c 1154, d. 28 Dec 1218) and his wife Yolande de Coucy (b. c 1168, d. 22 Mar 1222).

Circa 1210, he married Leonore de St. Valerie (b. c 1192, d. 15 Nov 1251), daughter of Sir Thomas de St. Valerie, Seigneur de Domart-en-Ponthieu, St. Valéry-sur-Somme, Bouint, Dommart, Bernardville, St.-Aubin, Gamaches, & Ault-sur-la-Mer and Adele de Ponthieu.

He died on 3 March 1234 at Braine, Aisne, Picardy, France and was buried at the Abbey of St.-Yved, Braine.

He and Leonore de St. Valerie had three children:

  • Yolande de Dreux (b. c 1212, d. 30 Oct 1248);
  • John, Count of Dreux (b. 1215, d. 1248);
  • Robert I de Dreux, Vicomte de Chateaudun, Seigneur de Bû, Nesle-en-Tardenois, Fère-en-Tardenois, Longueville, Quincy, Montdoubleau, & St.-Calais (b. 1217, d. 1266).
