Rev. Stephen Dryden, Gent., was the seventh son of John Dryden, Gent., of Canons Ashby, Northamptonshire, and Elizabeth Cope.[1] His date and place of birth are unknown and are estimated.
He was a legatee in the 1584 will of his father.[1] He was admitted to Middle Temple on 20 February 1589/90.[2] On 14 August 1615, he was installed as the Rector of Bulwick in Northamptonshire.[1][3]
Marriage
He married Ellen Neale, daughter of John Neale and Grace Butler.[1][4] The date and place of their marriage are unknown and are estimated. They had one son and three daughters:
Stephen was buried at Bulwick, Northamptonshire in 17 December 1636.[5] (his wife Ellen had been buried there 21 November 1632).[1] Stephen left a nuncupative will on 12 December 1636 that was proved 19 January 1636/7[1] and names his son "Chiseldyn", his son Harper, his daughter Warren and her children, Mrs. Elizabeth Dryden of Ashley Cannons, his cousin Giddins and her children, his sister Margett, his maid Dorothea 40 shillings and Elizabeth Greene, the wife of Thomas Greene of Bulwick. His sons Kenelm Cheseldine and Thomas Harper were named executors.[6]
