Biography

1776 Project
Soldier Solomon (du Bois) DuBois served with Albany County, New York Militia during the American Revolution.
Daughters of the American Revolution
Solomon (du Bois) DuBois is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A201540.

Solomon was a son of Henricus Du Bois and his wife, Jannetje Hoogteeling. He was baptized on 15 February 1736 with his aunt, Sara du Bois, and his aunt's husband, Syme Jacobse van Wagenen, as witnesses.[1]

Solomon Dubois and Arriantje Dubois married in the Reformed Dutch Church of Claverack on 21 October 1762. Both were identified as "of" Ulster County. William Thompson and Arriantje's sister Tietje Dubois were married that same day in the Claverack church.[2][3] Both marriages were also recorded in the Kingston Church four days later, on 25 October 1762.[4]

Solomon Du Bois, baptized 15 February 1736 at Kingston and married to Ariantje Du Bois, is recognized by the DAR as a patriot who served in the Albany Militia in the Company of Capt Wm Winnee, under Colonel Gerritt G Vanden Bergh.[5]

According to the DAR records, he died before 6 January 1787.[5] A FindaGrave Memorial for him asserts life dates of 15 December 1735 to 27 February 1784 and gives his place of burial as DuBois Burying Ground, Springtown (this is in the town of New Paltz), New York. No stone is indicated to exist and no other sources are mentioned. [6] The 1931 compilation of "Old Gravestones of Ulster County" does not show a gravestone inscription for Solomon in the Dubois Burying Ground. It lists several stones with incomplete or incompletely legible inscriptions, including one for "D B______, 18, 1784", which has the claimed year of death but no other evidence to connect it to this man.[7]

DuBois-1377 and Dubois-1219 appear to represent the same person because: Birth record for Hendricus found in old Dutch church records for Albany, Albany, New York indicate Soloman Du Boy and Ariantje DuBoy were his parents and Soloman's parents were Hendrikus Du_Boy-5 and Jannetje Hoogteling.
