Biography

Leah Corlea DuBois Ferree[1]

Birth

Leya Duboi was baptised on Oct. 16, 1687 at New Paltz, Ulster County, New York. Baptism was recorded at the Reformed Dutch Church of New Paltz, Ulster County, New York (p. 62); godparents were: Salomon Duboi, Mari Leblan [2][3].

Birth: 1687 New Palz, Lancaster Co, PA ???????????????
Death: Sep. 12, 1758 aged 71 years. Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, USA

"Young Philip Ferree, brother of Daniel, must have liked what he saw while living in New Paltz, for after the family had moved to Pennsylvania in 1712, he returned to New Paltz where he worked for Abraham DuBois until he had won the hand and heart of their daughter Leah. They were married in Kingston Reformed Church, and then he brought her to Lancaster County for the remainder of their lives. Soon after, in 1717, father Abraham DuBois journeyed to Lancaster County where he purchased 1000 acres of land adjacent to the Ferree-LeFevre tract. After the death of the Dubois parents, the land was divided among their children: Leah, who had married Philip Ferree; Abraham; Joel; Sarah, who married Rolf Elting; Catherine, who married William Donaldson; and Rachel. Philip Ferree and wife Leah produced the following children: Abraham, who married Elizabeth; Isaac; Jacob; Philip, Jr., wheelwright whose marriage to Mary Carpenter was recorded in 1739; Joel, gunsmith, who helped appraise his uncle Philip LeFevre's gunsmith estate after his death in 1766; Rachel who married James Gardner; Magdalena, who married William Buffington; and Elizabeth who married a Zurker."

A few suggestions:

1. Is there any evidence that Leah's middle name was Corlea, as stated at the beginning of the profile? If not, it should be removed. It's already been removed from the name of the profile.

2. Her birthplace was likely New Paltz, Ulster County, NY (or at least somewhere nearby) rather than New Paltz, Lancaster County, PA, as stated in the birth section.

3. Does anyone know the source for the long quote?
