Biography

George Henry Duckworth was born on Jan. 2, 1832 to John Duckworth and Catherine Moore in Bath County, Kentucky.[1] His parents were devout and active members of the Methodist Church.

George received his early training in a Christian home and at the district schools. He worked as a farm laborer and later took up carpentry. When he became of age, he engaged in the grocery business in North Salem, Indiana. He then worked in a general stock business, dealing largely in mules and horses.

George went to Montgomery County, Kansas in 1888 where he worked in the real estate business.

He married Eudotia Page, daughter of Chesley and Martha Page, on Dec. 24, 1864. They had no children of their own, but raised a foster daughter, Cloret Jones, who was proficient in singing and instrumental music.

George Henry Duckworth died on Nov. 12, 1911 and is buried at the Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas.[2]
