Kate was the oldest daughter born to James Madison Duff and Mary Frances Bone. She was part of a family of 9 children and she went on to have 11 of her own after she married Sam ( Samuel Marion) Patterson in 1889. She was age 13 when she married. Her obituary stated that she had lived in Hunt County all of her life.
The children of Sam and Kate Duff Patterson included: James Clyde Patterson, Robert Patterson, Thomas A. Patterson, Lonnie William Patterson, Samuel Francis Patterson, Ruby Nell Patterson, Floyd Duff Patterson, and Oscar Glenn Patterson, plus angel babies who awaited her in heaven.
She was a beloved daughter, wife and mother, and cherished many grandchildren.
Kate Duff Patterson died after a lengthy illness in 1967. Complications suffered from a broken hip.
