This outline for now is really meant to give everyone a greater understanding of why my family tree and this project is so important to me.
Although I wasn't adopted I didn't really start meeting my family until I was almost 40 years old. As a child I never met my grandparents. When I was about 5 I met one Aunt and her children who were much older than me. Out of 10 Aunts and Uncles that was it! As I grew up I remember being very confused with friends who had huge families and how they were related.
In they late 90's I reconnected with my Father and in turn reconnect him with his family he hadn't seen in over 20 years when by chance I went to Boston MA on a business trip. Sadly my Grandmother had died just 3 years earlier.
From there I went to my first "Duffy" family reunion. Where I was given a paper copy of the family tree which my Uncle and 2nd cousin had worked on for 20 years. They thought it would help me understand who was related to who.
I held onto it for years, one day I decided to translate the tree to Ancestry.com and add my mom's side of the family. I was so curious - and once I got started I found myself hooked!
I had an Aunt who died very young and left behind a son. I figured out his name and did a little searching and found an address. We connected after I sent very short "we could be related" letter. He in turn had been given a copy of the Spannagel / Macy family tree in 50's by our Aunt. She had great documentation handed to her. We really don't know who gave it to her but this is as close to a family bible as we will get!
My other big find this year (2014) is a phone number to the Spannagel side. They have a annual family reunion that has continued for 80 years. I plan on attending in 2015 for sure!
In short I really want to know who I'm related to and see if I can find living relatives distant or not. I want to know how all my family migrated to America. Additionally I want to make sure my family lines are not lost or forgotten and hope to connect future generations who are interested in their heritage. Beyond my family I have trees of people who where important to me that I will add in hopes to enrich the lives of others.

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.
Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.
If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.
Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page. Mags, WikiTree Mentor
To make DNA connections with your cousins, WikiTree needs to see your FamilyTree. You should use the pale yellow Privacy setting on any profiles in your DNA family line so that WikiTree can see the Family Tree tab. (Please set all living children to the Unlisted privacy level.)
As you add your family lines and connect to the big WikiTree, you may find you are related to people you never expected. Use the Relationship calculator to see if you are related to me, Cooper-1 with http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:Relationship
Please let me know if you need any assistance.
Each of the kits you have should be attached to the profile for that individual test participant. In other words, you should not have tests listed on your profile that other people took.
I will go ahead and join you to our DNA project and send you the standard welcome in a minute.
Here is a link to how to add a unrelated people. You could add the first person in the tree in this way, then import your gedcom and connect the next person in the tree by adding the first person as their child.
If there are famous people in your gedcoms (presidents, Pocahontas, movie starts, etc) then it is quite possible they are already in WikiTree - please check first so as not to add duplicates. Even if they are not famous, it is important to check for duplicates.
Thank you for asking such a good question!

I noticed you uploaded a GEDCOM. Here's a link to a great step-by-step of the process including screenshots that you might find helpful.
The help pages give lots of information about the process, best to start with 'Before you import a GEDCOM'.
Also, I see where you have uploaded your DNA for comparison. Did you know we have a Project for DNA where a lot of great new things are happening? It has information listed that might be of interest to you, and feel free to contact any of the members if you would like additional details.
You are now a member of the WikiTree Community. Please note we are trying to build one Collaborative Tree which means one profile per person. It is important to ensure no duplicates are entered as you add any Profiles to WikiTree.
If you need any help, see the help section from the menu, top left, or visit the G2G forum. You might want to check out the introductory WikiTree video that a member created.
Our Mentor Team are a friendly bunch of volunteers who will be glad to help you.
Thanks for offering to help with our shared tree :)
