Joseph married Marguerite Richard, daughter of Pierre Richard and Marguerite Landry, on Jan 12, 1711 in Grand Pré[2]. There were a number of witnesses including Abraham Dugas, Pierre Richard and Marguerite herself all of whom signed with a mark. Those who signed with a signature were Jean Terriot, Jacques Terriot, and Joseph himself.[3]
Joseph and Marguerite had nine children, all but two were born in Isle Royale (Port Toulouse or Louisbourg):[4]

this day September 5, 1733, was buried in the cemetery of the church of Louisbourg, Joseph Dugas, resident of the place. Who, after having received the sacraments of penance (?) and extreme anointing (?), returned his soul to God on the fourth of the said month and year.
