Biography

Victoire "Victorie" Dugas was born about about 1742 in Cobequid, Nova Scotia. She was the daughter Alexis Dugas and Marie Bourg.

Victoire married Pierre Oliver Benoit about 1760 in Bras D’Or, île Royale (now Cape Breton), Acadia. [citation needed] Their marriage was revalidated in Arichat, Ile Madame, on August 12, 1771. [1] The date and location of their marriage before witnesses were omitted in the register. This will need to be resolved against the recorded births of their children beginning with twins in 1764. This biography and vital data will be updated pending ongoing research. Otherwise what is represented herein is the best known information to date commensurate with known events including estimated marriage year of 1760 as represented by RootsWeb WorldConnect Project (Source & Web link below).

Victoire and Pierre had ten children including twins: Pierre-Paul and Marie-Josephe (twins), b. September 1764 in Arichat, Richmond Co., Nova Scotia; Marie Jeanne "Jeanette," b. abt. 1765 in Bras D’Or, île Royale (now Cape Breton); Jean-Baptiste, b. October 6, 1767 in Arichat, Richmond Co., Nova Scotia; Rene, b. April 15, 1770 in Arichat, Richmond Co., Nova Scotia; Jean, b. abt. 1772; Madeleine, b. abt. 1778; Ignace, b. abt 1779 in Tracadie, Antigonish Co., Nova Scotia; Louis, b. abt. 1783 in Tracadie, Antigonish Co., Nova Scotia; and Angelique, b. abt. 1787 in Tracadie, Antigonish Co., Nova Scotia.

Victoire died on July 20, 1823 in East Tracadie, Antigonish Co., Nova Scotia.
