Joseph Dugas was born about 1700 in Cobequid, Acadie, Nouvelle-France, son of Joseph Dugas (1680–about 1765) and Claire Bourg (about 1682–about 1727).

Joseph (19) and Anne Marie Hebert (17) were married about 1720 in Acadie. Anne was born in 1702 in Cobequit, Acadie.

Their children were:

  1. Marie Dugas (about 1722–1764)
  2. Alexis Dugas (about 1727–about 1795)

  4. Pierre Dugas (about 1732–1813)
  5. Françoise Dugas (about 1739–1759)
  6. Joseph Dugas (about 1742–1833)
  7. Jean Dugas (abt.1744-1759)
  8. Marie Anne Josephe Dugas (about 1748–before 1805)

Joseph DUGAST, head of family in 1752, was born about 1700 (no parents given), a ploughman. He married about 1720 to Anne-Marie HEBERT (no parents given); five children are listed. In 1752, Joseph, Anne-Marie his wife, and their five children were residents of Grande-Ascension on Isle St. Jean.[1]

Joseph and Anne Dugast with [only] two of those children disembarked at St. Malo on 23 Jan 1759 from one of the "Five Ships." Joseph [Sr.] and his wife and at least one child died at sea during the crossing to France in 1758-1759. [2][3]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA test-takers in his direct paternal line. Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line: It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:

I have also found additional listings in other locations listing a "Paul Dugas m. to Anne Marie Hebert" but will have to do some more research. So there is either a son named Francois who also married this same Claire Bourg or Francois is additional or actual name of Joseph? maybe?

This is interesting. The profile gives 1699 for Claires marriage and is supported by ensuing censuses (see their profiles). Im traveling now but will look later when i have my computer and more time. Thanks, Arora!

Two brothers Francois and Joseph Dugas married two sisters Claire b 1682 and Claire b 1692 Bourg. I cleaned up the profiles and added that note to the top of all four to clarify. It's an easily confused situation that took a long time to verify. Hopefully the profiles are cleaned up enough to support the two different marriages and dates of children birth as well. Thanks for the question, Arora.
