Biography

Samuel Dulaney was born between 1740 and 1750 in Ireland. He immigrated before 1774 to Franklin Co., VA, from Ireland. He resided Stephens Hole Branch in 1774 in Botetourt Co., VA. He owned land on 7 Apr 1784 in Marleys Branch, Bedford, VA. He appeared on the census in 1810 in Christiansburg, Montgomery Co., VA. (There is a Samuel Delaney/Delancy in the 1810 Franklin census that could match this Samuel or be his son.) He died in 1812 in Montgomery Co., VA. He was also known as Delany.

Samuel Dulaney and Rachel Davis were married between 1760 and 1770 in Ireland. Children were: Rachel Delany, Sarah Dulaney, William Dulaney, Daniel Dulaney, Benjamin Dulaney, Mary Dulaney, Samuel Dulaney, Elijah Dulaney.

Samuel signed his will on 19 March 1812 in Montgomery County, Virginia.[1][2]

Will

In the name of God, amen, I Samuel Dulaney of Montgomery County Virginia being through the abundant mercy and goodness of God tho weak of body yet of sound and perfect understanding and memory do constitute this my last will and testament as followeth. In premisses I give to my sone (son) William Dulaney the sum of five shillings. I give to my sone (son) Benjamin Dulaney the sum of five shillings. I give to my sone (son) Daniel Dulaney the sum of five shillings. Likewise to my daughter Sarah Reede (Reed) the sum of five shillings. I give to my daughter Rachel Grimes (Graham) the sum of five shillings each, like money and I give to my daughter Mary Davis five shillings the rest and residue of my goods and chattels and personal estate, after payment of my debts, legacies and personal expences (expenses) and unto my son Elijah Dulaney, whome (whom) I make my sole executor of this, my last will and testament. I give and bequeath to him and his heirs all and every messuages (house & outbuildings), lands, tenements, whatever and wheresoever, whom I also charge with the payment of my said legacies. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal the 18th day of March in the year of our Lorde (Lord) 1812.

How could Samuel be born 1740 in Ireland and his parents were both born in Virginia>? It appears he may be linked to the wrong family as Wm Ballard(?) Dulaney and wife, Mary Roberts were both born in Culpepper Co, VA.
