Biography

John was the child of Henry Dumas. He was mentioned in the will of his father.[1] John passed away in 1818.[2] His date of birth was before the date of his father's will which was in 1747.[3] [4]

1783 - The Dumas family were listed as having a seat in Killarney church - among the 18 principal families whose names are listed.[5]

Will of John Dumas of Milltown I John Dumas of Milltown being now in a sickly state of health but in the perfect possession of my mortal faculties do make and publish this my last will and Testament hereby revoking all and every other will or wills before by me made. In the first place I bequeather my soul to my Creator I bequeathe the sum of telve hundred pounds sterling which I lately of inherited left me by my kinsman Sir James Craig in the following proportions that is to say part of it as I have not heretofore disposed of in payment of my debts the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds sterling to my oldest son James Dumas and a like sum of one hundred nd fifty pounds sterling to each of my other sons Henry Dumas, and John Dumas which sums I have already given them. I give and bequeath one hundred and twenty five pounds sterling to each of my daughters Frances Huggard and Mary Ann Dumas and it is my will that my said daughter Frances Huggard be in the first instance ?? out of the aforesaid one hundred and twenty five pounds sterling with such sums as she or her husband Evan Huggard may be indebted to any of my sons. I further will and bequeath to my 2nd daughter Mary Anne Dumas the furniture of her room and her wardrobe. I will and bequeath the residue of the said Legacy of 12 hundred pounds British sterling which may remain after the payment of sum to my son John Arthur Dumas by book and to my dearly beloved wife Fanny Dumas during her life and I will and desire that after her death half being vested in my eldest son James and the other half to such of my sons and daughters as my wife shall think fit to bequeathe the sum to. I further will and bequeath my said wife her clothes curtains and the furniture of her room and the residue of my household furniture to my son James Dumas. I further will and bequeath whatever may be due to me from Henry Arthur Herbert of Muckross to share and share alike between my wife and my five children James Dumas, Henry Dumas, John Arthur Dumas Frances and Mary Anne and I hereby nominate and appoint Giles Rae of Arma, Esq. and my eldest son James Dumas to be my executors to this my last will and testament which I sign under my hand and seal this 22nd day of July 1816. signed John Dumas witnesses Giles Rae, Thomas Miles Richard Neile On 17th April 1818 Sworn with the will and codicil annexed of the goods and cloethes and credits of John Dumas late of Milltown in the county of Kerry in Ireland Probate was granted to Fanny Dumas widow the probate being first sworn by Commission duly to administer Giles Rae Esq one of the executors first nominated and James Dumas the son, the other executor died without having taken upon himself the probate and execution thereof
