DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

In "North Carolina, County Marriages, 1762-1979, there are two John Duncans within a few years of age. Directly below the record for the marriage of John Duncan, son of John Duncan, to Polly James, there is a marriage record for John Duncan, son of Absalom Duncan, to Youley Killon (just a few months later). Some people, on their trees, seem to get this John, son of Absalom, confused with the John Duncan who resided in Jackson County, Ohio. More information on John and Youley can be found at: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/24769873. Also, it is possible that Mary Polly James was deceased by 1820, because there is not a female near her age in the 1820 Census with John Duncan residing in Jackson County.
