William Jasper Duncan was born 23 June 1842, in Tennessee, the second Duncan child of Lucy Greer. His parentage is not certain. Lucy parted from her spouse, Fleming Willis Duncan some time between their 1837 marriage in Sumner, Tennessee [1]and her appearance in the 1850 US Federal Census in the family of John Richardson along with her two Duncan children, and their two young Richardson children. Head of Household, John is 29 years old, born in Tennessee, Lucy is 35 years old, born in Virginia. Daughter Frances F. Duncan is 11, William J. Duncan is 8. Both were born in Tennessee. The Richardson children are James K. P., age 3 and infant Nancy E. [2]
