A short history of Mrs. Sartin who was beyond any doubt the oldest person living in Howard County, was published in the DAILY DEMOCRAT-BANNER, February 22, and SEMI-WEEKLY, Feb 25. The funeral and burial will take place at Rock Springs Church, Friday morning at 11 o'clock.
May the repose of her soul be as penceful as the thousands whom she has known wish it to be.

St. Louis Globe-Democrat (St. Louis, Missouri), Sun., 18 Aug 1895, p28 (transcribed/contributed by SD):[2]

Mrs. Nancy Sartin is the oldest inhabitant of one of the oldest counties in Missouri. Before her marriage to Wright Sartin she was a Miss Nancy Duncan and was born in Montgomery County, Va., December 15, 1794 and removed to Tennessee with her father, John Duncan, in 1809, where she was married to Mr. Sartin in 1812. She removed with him to Missouri in 1834, and settled in Chariton Township, Howard County, where Mr. Sartin bought a farm near Rock Springs, which farm Mrs. Sartin still owns. Mrs. Sartin was the mother of ten children, five of whom, two sons and three daughters, still live. She joined the Baptist Church at Mount Moriah in 1856 under the teaching of Rev. Amos Cake, and has been a consistent member of that church ever since. Mrs. Sartin was strong and active up to July, 1893, at which time her mental and physical strength to a large extent deserted her. She makes her home with her son Henry D. Sartin, who is a deputy sheriff of Howard County.

Hi Sandy -

I see in the changes for Nancy Duncan that you added her father as Joseph Duncan. I'm wondering if you could add a source; your information is contrary to a newspaper article which gives Nancy's father as John. Thank you.

16 Mar 2016 21:07: Sandy Edwards added Joseph Duncan (1752-aft.1842) as father for Nancy (Duncan) Sartain (1794-1902).

Hi Sandy and thanks for your note.

I will go in and make the updated change(s) based on your 2020 research; conform top info to bottom research; etc. (1) disconnect Nancy m Sartain and note change on Profile Duncan-5243 (Joseph m Marr); or (2) If you know who the spouse is of John, see if you can locate them in wikitree (this could be added as parent replace). (Note lengthy email to follow re research info)

I am hoping to see evidence of this linkage of Nancy Duncan to Joseph Duncan and Jemima Marr. This source - St. Louis Globe-Democrat (St. Louis, Missouri), Sun., 18 Aug 1895, p28 (https://www.newspapers.com/image/571299345) - gives her father as John Duncan. Thank you for any help!
