My great grandpa Jasper Duncan married to Mary L. M. Ferguson and had seven children. I knew personally five of the seven. My grandmother Osa passed when I was two years old and great Uncle Luther died before I was born. Great Uncle Luther was a young man with wife and son.

Mary's nickname was Maggie to her husband and friends but I did not know her except by Granny Duncan when I visited her and Grandpa Duncan on their Buffalo, Humphreys County, TN farm. The farm had been moved from near the Tennessee River by TVA in early late '30s due to a dam to be built up river and would flood the nearby farm lands. Granny Duncan was daughter of George W. Ferguson and his first wife Nancy Agnes Brown. Agnes as she was more known died when my Granny was about 9 years old. Granny was then raised by G.W. Ferguson's second wife of "Dee". Granny Duncan became crippled by Arthritis in the early 40's but could still crochet like no one had ever seen. She was an article in the Tennessean Newspaper about her ability to crochet bedspreads and doilies even with her crippled hands an fingers. Her body was crippled and her way of moving about was an old cane chair that one of her son's fixed with rollers so she could go about her home. I remember her in th 1950's doing fine and was a happy lady enjoying her family. I visited her during my summer vacations from Oklahoma and chased the chickens and cows as well as play about the old barn for my fun. She was a grand lady and had an happy outlook even during the passing of her two adult children and enjoyed her young grandchildren and great grandchildren such as myself. I keep her picture in my living room as a remberance of her strength and attitude. Rembering my great Grandmother, Mary Lavonia Magdalene Ferguson Duncan. 4.9.2017.
