Obituary

FROM THE FLORA PAPER:
MRS. SAMUEL LANDIS PASSES AWAY AT ADVANCED AGE: Mrs. Samuel Landis died at her home near Wheeling last Friday night from heart trouble from which she had been an invalid for the past two years, much of the time being very poorly, but through all her suffering she was the personification of patience and was perfectly resigned to her approaching death. During the last fall, she was visited by two of her sons, Harry and Charlie, of Seattle, who came knowing full well that that would probably be the last time they would behold their motherin the flesh. Their visit seemed to put new life into the aged lady. Recently the one son, Harry, reached the top of the educational ladder, when he was unanimously elected president of Washington University, and Mrs. Landis' cup of happiness ran over because this had been attained by his own effort, he having never received a dollar against the great expense of getting his education. She loved all her children, and they repaid her love with worthy lives.
Lydia Dunkin was born in Carrollton Township, November 28, 1842, and had lived, with the exception of two or three years in Kansas, within the borders of Carroll County all her life. She was united in marriage with Samuel Landis in 1866. She is survived by the husband of almost a half century, four sons, Harry and Charles, of Seattle, Wash., Ross of Logansport and Thomas, of Carrollton Township, and one daughter, Mrs. Robert S. Hunt, of Bloomington, Ind., besides a number of distant relatives and many friends. The funeral was held at the Sharon Baptist Church where she had been a member. Burial was in the Sharon Cemetery.
