Biography

Jabaz was born in 1857, the son and youngest of nine known children of Thomas Barnes Dunn (1811-1863) and Evelyn N Bridgham (1815-1891).

The 1860 US census for Turner, Maine lists residents Thomas B Dunn (49), a farmer, Eveline Dunn (45), Edward W Dunn, a farm laborer, Josiah B Dunn, a student, Martha E Dunn (7), a student, Vesta M Dunn (5), a student, Jabez W Dunn (3), Sebastian S Vose (20) and Sally E Vose (19). Thomas owns real estate valued at $6675 and has a personal estate valued at $941 while Edward has a personal estate valued at $175. Sabastian and Sally have been married within the past year and Sally has attended school within the past year.

The 1870 US census for Dixfield, Maine shows head of household Josiah B Dunn (26), a farmer, his wife Laura A (26) and their daughter Lillian (11 months), as well as Josiah's mother Evelyn Dunn (54) and brother Jabaz W (12), a student. Josiah owns real estate valued at $1050 and has a personal estate of $600.

Jabaz married Anna Rhoda Grover at Dixfield, Maine on 24 Dec 1879. They were the parents of five known children.

The 1880 US census for Auburn, Maine shows the residents of a home on Summer Street as Eveline [sic] Dunn (65), a widow, her son Jabaz W (22), a shoe shop hand and his wife Anna R (22).

The 1900 US census for Hartford, Maine lists those residing on a farm owned by head of household Jake W Dunn (43), a farmer, and his wife Annie R (43), their sons Willard A (18), a farm laborer, Ralph J (16), Thomas B (13) and Archie E (9). The youngest three boys were attending school and have been in attendance for seven months of the past year. Willard does not attend school. Jake and Anna have been married for nineteen years; Anna has given birth to five children, all alive at the time of this report. The farm is owned free from mortgage.

The 1910 US census for Hartford, Maine conducted 15 and 16 Apr 1910 lists residents of a farm as head of household Jabez W Dunn (52), a farmer, and his wife Anna R (52). They have been married for thirty years and Anna has given birth to five children, all living at the time of this report. Residing with them are their son Archie (18), a farm laborer on his home farm, their son George G (29), a salesman at a general store, his wife of eight years, Della M (27) and their son Albert W Dunn (7). Della has given birth to one child. Archie did not attend school within the past year and George was out of work the week of April 15, 1910.

The 1920 US census for Hartford, Maine lists residents of a farm in Hartford Town as Jabez W Dunn (62), a dairy farmer, his wife Anna R (62) and their son Archie E (28), single, a farmer. They own their farm.

Jabaz passed away in 1928 and is buried at the North Turner Cemetery, North Turner, Maine.
