Early Life
Alexander Dunn was born in 1780 in Cuminestown in the parish of Monquhitter, Aberdeenshire to father Alexander Dunn.
Marriage and Children
Alex married Margaret Black daughter of teacher George Black and Margaret Reid in Old Machar, Aberdeen in 1813.
They had the following children:

William Dunn 1819
George Black Dunn 1821–1899
John Dunn 1827
Census
Alex is noted in the 1841 Old Machar census as a hosier living with his son carpet weaver Alex and his family.
In the 1851 Old Machar census he is still living with his son flax worker Alex and his family working as a woolen hosier.
Death
Alex died in September 1854 and was buried in the Old Machar churchyard. Wife Margaret died of unknown causes in 1856 in Aberdeen.
