Biography

Adelaide was born on August 28, 1919 in Pinckneyville, IL, a daughter to Thomas and Frances (Bruns) Dunn; one of ten children. She was a graduate of St. Bruno Catholic School and a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church. After graduating from Pinckneyville High School, she entered Southern Illinois University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in English and Latin. In 1954, she received an MA in English from Washington State University, Pullman. She continued her education in several Illinois Universities and Oregon State University, earning 60 hours beyond her Master’s. She began teaching at Fairfield and Marion High schools and then moved to Chicago Heights Bloom, where she taught for over 35 years. In all, Adelaide taught high school for 42 years before retiring to the family farm in 1985. Adelaide (Dede as she was known to many) served as the Pinckneyville Librarian from 1987-1990[1]
