The death has occurred in her home at Kaitnia of Mrs. A. H. Puckey, a member of a family closely connected with the early days of settlement in the district. Mrs. Puckey was born at Pamapuria, Kaitaia, where her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Dunn, were the first native school teachers. As a young woman Mrs. Puckey was assistant teacher at the Pukepoto native school, where her parents were then teaching. Mrs. Puckey married a grandson of Mr. William Puckey who, with her grandfather, the Rev. Joseph Matthews, founded the Kaitaia mission station over 100 years ago. In the marriage were united the two families responsible for the founding of Kaitaia. Mr.. Puckey engaged in farming between Kaitaia and Awanui, and Mrs. Puckey had lived there since. She is survived by her husband, one daughter and one son.
