Biography

Francois Dupuis was reportedly born May 28, 1729 [citation needed] in Saintonge, France, but if his full name is Antoine Francois then he may be the son of Jacques (mother not named) that was baptized on June 4, 1729 in France. [1]

Francois Dupuis died in 1788. [2][3]

He was buried October 15th at the estimated age of 70 years.[4]

DUPUIS died intestate 7 October 1788 leaving several minor children. Slaves listed are Regine with her two children, Marie, 7, and Louis, 2. Antoine Borne, Antoine Delatte, and Jacques Estaire, cousins of the minor orphans, petition 11 October 1788 to sell the land which consists of 4 arpents of frontage on the left bank of the river ascending around 14 leagues from New Orleans, bounded below by Antoine Delatte and above by Jean Bpte. Rodrigue. Bidders are Jean Bpte. Rodrigue, Mrs. Rousselle, Antoine Borne, and Jacques Estaire. The winner is BORNE at 4,210 piastres. Mathias Roussel is security.     Proceedings in New Orleans dated 2-24 December 1789 before Governor Estevan Miro and recorded by Pedro Pedesclaux, Notary Public, regarding the petition filed by Mariana PUJOLLE, Widow MASSON, resident of the German Coast but currently in New Orleans, who ten years earlier took into her care Margarita DUPUY, the infant daughter of Mrs. Dupuy, who had died, and raised her as her own. Due to the death of the child's father, Franco. Dupuy, she asks for an order to continue as the child's adoptive mother and tutor. She names Luis Pin as security. Her petition is approved and referred to O'Conor. Act of tutorship dated 14 January 1790 before O'Conor of Marguerite DUPUY, daughter of the late Francois Dupuy. By virtue of a decree from Governor Miro and the approval of his auditor, Lezdo. Postigo dated 19 December 1789, Widow MASSON, Marianne PUJOLE [s/ PUJOLLE], is named tutrix of Marguerite Dupuy and the child's inheritance is put in her hands. She names Noel Perret, Lieutenant of the Militia, as security. Witnessed by Pierre Bossie, Sublieutenant of the Militia, and Jean Bpte. Barree. Act of tutorship dated 14 January 1790 of Antoine DUPUY, minor child of Francois Dupuy, in presence of Antoine Borne, Antoine Delatte [s/ Delattre], and Antoine Foltz [s/ Folse], cousins of the minor; and Antoine Weber [s/Webre], Joseph Perret, and Thomas Becnel, neighbors. They name Antoine Borne as tutor and Joseph Perret as subrogate tutor. The child's inheritance is placed in Borne's hands. Petition granted. The farm is 4 arpents wide by the customary depth, bounded below by the property of Antoine Delatte and above by that of Jean-Baptiste Rodrigue.
