Biography

Flag of Worcestershire (adopted 2013)
Joseph Dutton was born in Northfield, Worcestershire, England.

Joseph Dutton was probably baptised on 31 March 1714 at the parish church in Northfield to parents Henry Dutton and Elizabeth. Joseph's marriage record described his as from Northfield, so this is likely.

Joseph's burial record described him as a 'Taylor', an old spelling for a tailor, a trade he probably worked in all his life.

Marriage of Joseph Dutton and Mary Field, 1735.

Joseph (of Northfield) married Mary Field on 24 June 1735 at St. Nicholas in Kings Norton, Worcestershire.[1] The couple had the following children in Northfield:

  • Mary Dutton was baptised on 2 April 1736 in Northfield.[2]
  • Elizabeth Dutton was baptised on 21 March 1737.[2]
  • Ann Dutton was baptised on 8 May 1741.[2]
  • Sarah Dutton was baptised on 3 Mar 1734 NS.[2]
  • Martha Dutton was baptised on 13 September 1747.[2]
  • Hannah Dutton was baptised on 30 September 1750.[2]
  • Henry Dutton was baptised on 19 November 1753.[2] Henry was a tailor like his father. He remained in Northfield and married Mary Roberts.
  • Jane Dutton was baptised on 5 October 1755.[2] Jane married William Lees.
  • Susanna Dutton was baptised on 10 December 1758.[2]
  • Abigail Dutton was baptised on 4 January 1761.[2] Abigail, daughter of Joseph and Mary, an infant, was buried 8 September 1761 in Northfield.[3]

Joseph was called 'senior' on his burial record so would have certainly had a son called Joseph, but his baptism is not found.

Burial of Joseph Dutton, senior, taylor.

Joseph was buried on 5 May 1776 at the parish church in Northfield.[3]
