Biography

John Dutton is the son of Daniel Benedict Dutton and Lorana (Smith) Dutton. Commonly known as "Deacon," John was born in Stowe, Vermont, August 23, 1818.[1] He married Harriet Lord in Vermont in 1848.[2] John passed away in 1888[3] and is buried in Norwich, Vermont.[4]

John and Harriet had six children:

  • Louisa Augusta Dutton, died at eleven years of age
  • George Albinus, born September 15, 1854, graduated form Dartmouth College in 1880, and from the Hartford Theological Seminary, in 1883. He was ordained a Congregational minister at Norwich in 1884, and assigned by the America Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions as a missionary to northern Mexico, where he died June 6, 1885
  • Charles Sumner Dutton, born in Norwich, December 9, 1857, also graduated Dartmouth College, with his brother, George, in the class of 1880. Married Ella Frances Lyman and lived on the old homestead with his parents, becoming their heir.
  • Henry Allen Dutton, died at seven years of age
  • Harriet Elizabeth Dutton, married Otis Metcalf of Hartford, Vermont
  • Mary Lorana Dutton, died young
