Biography

Lemuel Ford Dyer son of Ezekiel Dyer and Elizabeth Dyer was born on April 27, 1786, in Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland County, Massachusetts (now Maine).[1]


He died at age 60, on January 22, 1847 in Portland, Cumberland, Maine, and was buried in the Evergreen Cemetery, [1] 672 Stevens Ave., Portland, Cumberland, Maine.

Note: Lemuel Dyer of Portland, the well known shipbuilder.
Lemuel Dyer was a master-mariner; about 1815, he removed to Portland. His home in that city was the original mansion of Brigadier-General Jedidiah Preble, which he purchased of Enoch Preble, son to the General. In 1868, it was standing on Commercial Street, which was originally named Thames Street.

Between 1808 and 1824 Lemuel had six sons all of whom subsequently became involved in shipbuilding. "After the death of Lemuel in 1847 from a blow of an axe while cutting ship timber in Hiram...."
