Biography

Wealthy Dyer was born, probably at Cape Elizabeth, Maine, c1768, the daughter of Lemuel Dyer and Wealthea Jordan; [1] died at Addison, Maine, 1810; [2] married at Scarboro, Maine, 21 Nov 1788, Wilmot Wass; [2] [3] [4] born at Addison, Maine, c1765, the son of Wilmot Wass and Lucy Strout; [2] died, probably at Addison, after 1830. [2] Eight children. [2] [3] Wilmot married (2) c1811, Phebe Coffin, born at Edgartown, Massachusetts, 1778; [5] [4] died at Addison in the 1850s; had one more daughter. [2] She had married (1) at Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, 22 Jun 1795, her cousin, John Coffin. [5]

In the Maine Genealogist, Vol. 19, p. 73, we read:[6]

It is not known whether or not Lemuel [Dyer] and Welthea [Jordan] had children, but possibly "Welthy" Dyer, who witnessed one of the Reverend Ephraim Clark's deeds on 3 April 1787, was Lemuel and Welthea's daughter [Cumberland Co. deed 15:436-37].

That Welthea is the daughter of Lemuel Dyer and Welthea Jordan is confirmed in the Maine Historical and Genealogical Reporter, Vol. 3, p. 103: [4]

Willmot [Dyer] 3d, son of Willmot 2d, m. Wealthy Dyer, dau. of Lemuel, of Portland. Their children, Lemuel D., Holmes, Jones, Otis, Robert, Rebecca and Catherine. After the death of his first wife, Willmot 3d m. Phebe, widow of John Coffin, by whom he had one child, Sophia, who married a Stockbridge and moved West.
