George Burton Dyer, son of Charles Dyer and Hannah Snow was born on March 29, 1835 in Eastport, Washington, Maine.[1]
He enlisted in the Union Army during the Civil War on September 9, 1862,[2] and was discharged on July 13, 1865, as a Major. War Record showed Co. B & F & S, 9th infantry, Maine Volenteers.[3][4]
George married Sophia Carey Gould in 1868, in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[5] In 1868 George (age about 32) was employed in Merchant.
His wife Sophia Carey passed away on May 13, 1876, in Boston, Massachusetts, at the age of 38. They had been married 7 years. His child Stillborn was born on May 13, 1876, and passed away that same day.
Widowed (age 45) He was a 'Furniture Dealer in 1880, in Boston, suffolk, Massachusetts, living with his Mother-in-law Sarah B Gould.[6]
George died at the age of 78 on 16 June 1913 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[7]
George was buried in 1913 in the Hillside Veterans Cemetery, Eastport, Washington, Me.

Name: George B. Dyer
George B. Dyer(1879), merchant, of Boston, son of Charles and Hannah (Snow) Dyer, was born in Eastport, Washington, Me., March 29, 1835. He married, Oct. 8, 1868, Sophia Carey Gould, of Boston. His early life was spent in his native town, where he attended the grammar and high schools. After graduation he became employed in the manufacture and sale of fine furniture, in which business he is now employed at No. 1 Washington Street, Boston.
Col. Dyer (1879) is a descendant of Nicholas Snow, who came to Plymouth, in 1623, in the ship Ann, and of Dr. William Dyer, of Truro, Barnstable, Mass. His ancestors were prominent in the military affairs of the province and colony.
Mr. Dyer (1879) enlisted as a private in Company B, Ninth Regiment of Maine Volunteer Infantry, Sept. 10, 1862, and became orderly sergeant of that company April 25, 1863. He was commissioned as second lieutenant of Company B, June 23, 1863; was promoted to be captain Aug. 22, 1864, and major of the Ninth Regiment, Maine Volunteers, Oct. 4, 1864. He was commissioned lieutenant-colonel and colonel of United States Volunteers, by brevet, to rank from March 13, 1865, for gallant and meritorious services during the War. He was discharged from service July 13, 1865, by reason of the close of the Rebellion.
