He formed part of the 1820 British Settler programme, arriving at Algoa Bay on 24.5.1820. He was on board the ship "la Belle Aliance". He was killed during the 8th Eastern Frontier War at Albany in the Eastern Cape. in 1832 He and Mary ran the Bathurst Grammar School and the Cuylerville School, founded by his father-in-law.
William John was born in 1803. He passed away in 1869.
