Biography

Died in Rochester, Vermont, Feb. 13, 1853, Harriet (Eaton) Martin, wife of Col. Thomas Brown Martin, age 51 years. She was born in Hancock, Vermont, daughter of David and Amy (Clark) Eaton. The death of Mrs. Martin was sudden and unexpected. She had been somewhat unwell for a few days, but was thought to be improving until Sunday evening about an hour before she died. The doctor was summoned, but no relief could be rendered. Her sudden and unexpected departure is keenly and painfully felt by a large circle of sympathizing neighbors and friends, but most fully by her husband, children and family connections. But, Thank God, her example and influence, her kind, gentle, modest retiring, forgiving spirit still lives to cherish her memory, and we feel that we pay but a small tribute to her excellent moral worth when we say she was a faithful companion , a devoted mother, sister and friend whose virtues and example contributed much to make society and home happy. She was a firm, devoted Universalist. Rev. George S. Guernsey.
