Biography

Anna Bland Eaton was born 21 Dec 1763 in Prince George County, Virginia.[1][2][3]

She was the daughter of Gen. Thomas Eaton and Anna Bland.[1][2]

Her mother died when Anna was an infant. She was raised by her grandparents until age 12, then taken to North Carolina to live with her father.[3]

Anna married Guilford Dudley 23 May 1784 in Halifax County, North Carolina.[2][3]

Their children include:

They moved to Fayetteville County, North Carolina in January 1785, stayed 2 years, and returned to Roanoke for 1 year. The family moved to Prince Edward County, Virginia in January 1796 and remained there 8 years before returning to Roanoke again. They came to Tennessee in April 1807, settling Williamson County in 1825. In 1832, they lived in the town of Franklin.[1][2][3]

Her husband appeared in Williamson County Court 12 Oct 1832 to testify in his pension application for his service in the Revolutionary War. His testimony is extensive and includes his service as well as records for himself, wife, and children from his family bible.[2]

Colonel Guilford Dudley, Sr. was born April 17, 1756 in Carolina County, Virginia. He died February 3, 1833 and is buried in the old City Cemetery. His wife was Anna Bland Eaton , daughter of General Thomas Eaton of North Carolina. Colonel Dudley left a will in 1832 naming his wife Anna Bland Dudley and children: Virginia Dudley who married Thomas W. Cash, Helen, Judith Randolph Dudley who married Nicholas J. Long, Theoderic Bland Dudley, Thomas Eaton Dudley (1792-1836) and Guilford Dudley.[4] Daughters' names found in other documents were Helen Lord, Mary Hill, Nancy Hickman and Frances Crockett.

Anna applied for a widow’s pension 19 Mar 1839 in Williamson County, Tennessee, stating her husband died 3 Feb 1833 in Franklin, Tennessee.[2]

Anna may have removed to Louisiana after her husband’s death.[6]

Anna passed away 6 Dec 1847. She has a memorial at the Old Franklin Cemetery in Franklin, Williamson County, Tennessee.[1][3]

Her obituary was published 10 Dec 1847 in the Wester Weekly Review in Williamson County.[3]
