His name was just Jared/Jarret Branson not John. His probate refers to him on January 31st 1831 as Jarret Branson. A brother came to Gasconade, MO with him. His name was John but he also went by James - probably because their father was named John. Their father John was born about 1726 in St Mary's MD. They were Baptists not Quakers.
