John Thomas Edmunds, aged 11, was living at Frog St., Clun with his grandparents at the time of the 1871 Census. He is recorded as their son, perhaps to hide his possible illegitimacy, but his grandparents already had older sons named John and Thomas and, additionally, his Grandmother, Mary, nee Jones, born Heyope 1802 was 57 years old at the time of his birth.
By the time of the 1881 Census he was working as a stone mason and was living at The Fleece Inn , Knighton, Radnorshire. Wales, the home of his father’s sister, Elizabeth and her husband, William Williams, the licensee, who was also a stone mason by trade.
On the 6th. June 1882 John Thomas Edmunds and Jessie Pugh, the only child of Frederick Pugh, a local master carpenter, were married at Knighton Baptist Chapel and their nine children, including the oldest son, George Frederick, my Grandfather , were subsequently born in the town.
