Born in Darlington on April 18, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Dr. George Boardman Edwards, Sr., and Marie McCullough Edwards. She was a graduate of St. John’s High School, Class of 1934, and a graduate of Winthrop College, Class of 1938.

After her college graduation she taught school in Brunson and Conway, SC, until her marriage in June, 1941, to the late Captain John Hackett (Jack) Culbertson of Mullins, who perished in a military airplane crash in 1945 while serving in the U.S. Army.

In 1948 she married her childhood friend and classmate, Lucas M. Dargan. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in October, 2011.

Mrs. Dargan was a communicant of St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Darlington. She was an accredited flower show judge and lover of camellias, and a member of historic societies of Darlington County and South Carolina as well as the Major Robert Lide Chapter of the National Society of Colonial Dames. For several years, she was secretary, then classroom teacher at Pate Elementary School.

In addition to her husband she is survived by daughters Jacquelyn Hackett Culbertson Adams and her husband Patton of Columbia; Mary Amanda Dargan Zeitlin and her husband Steven of Hastings-on-Hudson, NY; Sarah Edwards Dargan Cornejo of Darlington; and Rosa McIntosh Dargan Powers and her husband Alan of Vilas, NC; nine grandchildren: Thomas Patton Adams and his wife Savorn of Fairfax, VA; John Hackett Culbertson Adams and his wife Jennifer of Columbia, and Lucas Dargan Adams of Snowmass, CO; Benjamin Harold Zeitlin and Eliza Dargan Zeitlin of New Orleans, LA; Sarah Elizabeth Cornejo and Teresa Lucia Cornejo, of Darlington; and Dargan Graham Powers and Aidan Edwards Powers, of Vilas, NC; four great-grandchildren, Thomas Patton Adams VII and Richard Anthony Adams of Fairfax, VA, and John Hackett Culbertson Adams, Jr. and Nathan Jenkins Adams of Columbia; as well as a large and loving extended family.

Mrs. Dargan was predeceased by sisters McCullough Edwards Dargan and her husband William Edwin Dargan Jr. of Darlington, and Virginia Edwards who died in infancy; brothers George Boardman Edwards, Jr., and his wife Betty, and Joseph Robert Edwards and his wife Betty of Darlington and Spartanburg.
