Biography

Mary Edwards was born 20 Sept. 1649 in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts Bay colony, New England. She was the daughter of Alexander Edwards and his wife, Sarah, widow of John Searles, a fellow immigrant with Alexander Edwards to New England in 1640.[1] Mary, naturally, accompanied her parents and other siblings when the family moved to Northampton, where Alexander Edwards helped establish its first grist mill. The others involved included William Clark, Samuel Wright Sr., and Joseph Parsons. All of these families would interact in the 18th and 19th Centuries as well.

On December 15, 1670, Mary Edwards married John Field in Northampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts Bay colony.[2] The couple settled in Hatfield, Hampshire, Massachusetts Bay colony and had 10 children, all born in Hatfield:[3]

John Field was a soldier with Capt. Turner in the Turner's Falls fight with the Indians on May 19, 1676. He lived in Hatfield for the rest of his life and died there on June 26, 1717. No grave site has been found for him but it's assumed he was buried in Hatfield. [4] Mary (Edwards) Field survived her husband's death. She died in 1743 at over 90 years old in Hatfield, Hampshire, Province of Massachusetts Bay.

No grave site has been identified for her. [5]
